Sphinx Virtuosi, one of the nation’s most dynamic professional orchestras, consists of eighteen classical soloists. The musicians are alumni of Detroit’s internationally acclaimed Sphinx Competition, which provides educational and performance opportunities to Black and Latino musicians.

Children ages 6 to 12 can learn to make Frobscottle and other fabulously fizzy things with experts from Discovery Space of Central Pennsylvania. Registration is required. Limit thirty participants. Visit Schlow Library for information and to register. The event is a partnership among Schlow, Discovery Space, and the Center for the Performing Arts.

The costume party is a partnership among Schlow, Discovery Space of Central Pennsylvania, and the Center for the Performing Arts.

The public is invited to a free screening of DJ Spooky’s Rebirth of a Nation, followed by a question-and-answer session with the film’s director. Topics of discussion include racial imagery and cultural (mis)representation, the tools used to reimagine contemporary cinema, and the history of African-American remix culture. Michael Bérubé, director of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at Penn State, moderates a post-screening question-and-answer session.

The community is invited to a 90-minute event about the barriers that keep people from civic engagement. Centre County Use Your Voice will tackle the problem of being underrepresented and unheard through social networking, a panel discussion, testimonials on the everyday issues single women face, and a roundtable exercise to identify how each person can engage locally in community decision-making. The conversation outcomes will be announced from the stage at the March 16 Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins, and Anaïs Mitchell concert in Eisenhower Auditorium.
