Soles of Duende
Can We Dance Here?

7:30 pm Wednesday, November 5, 2025

Three choreographic storytellers bask in the light of their unspoken conversation, with a varied soundtrack threading each artist’s journey. Can We Dance Here? is that wordless exchange.

Soles of Duende features the percussive sounds of tap (Amanda Castro), Spanish flamenco (Arielle Rosales), and kathak Indian classical dance (Brinda Guha) in a multicultural, rhythmic example of how visual performing arts can speak volumes without saying a word. The artists embody their people’s history and use their cultures’ rhythms as a universal language.

Bonded by their love of music, their crafts, and true connection, Soles of Duende’s move is to elevate the joy and music in group celebration of their cultural histories and dance styles.

“When it comes to music, the one thing we do share? The floor … the floor lets us share our cultures across bars,” the ensemble says.

Post-performance discussion

After the performance, the artists will speak with interested audience members.

The Center for the Performing Arts and Student Affairs invite you to replenish.

Food is much more than what sits on our plates. Food intersects with nearly every aspect of our lives—from the communities and cultures we come from to issues of climate, food security, and our personal relationships with food.

Just like food, art comes from many forms, cultural backgrounds, and histories. At each Joyfull, we welcome all to come and enjoy a meal, live performance, and conversation.

When our bodies are hungry, we need to eat. But when our souls are hungry, we crave a different kind of nourishment. Join us for evenings of joyful expression, where we forge connections and leave with full bellies and full hearts. Feed your soul; savor the culture.

The program, entertainment, and menu will be announced closer to the event.

Free sustainable utensil sets will be given to first-time attendees while supplies last. Help us reduce waste by bringing them with you to use at each Joyfull.
