Campus Comedy Night
Featuring Preacher Lawson
with opening sets by Kate Sisk and Derby

8:00 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2023

Laughter will fill Eisenhower Auditorium when Preacher Lawson and Kate Sisk perform their stand-up comedy in a show organized by Penn State students.

Preacher Lawson

Lawson is best known for his appearance on season twelve (2017) of NBC’s hit series America’s Got Talent, where he made it to the final rounds. Based on his stellar performance that season, he was invited to compete on America’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019) and Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019), where he advanced to the finale after receiving the most votes from the fans. In 2019, Lawson recorded his first stand-up special that premiered on BET+. Today, he performs at sold-out venues around the country.

Kate Sisk

In addition to being a stand-up comedian, an amateur drag king, and a retired soccer player, Sisk is a contributing writer for The Onion and a recent participant in the NBC Late Night Writers Workshop. Sisk’s stand-up comedy about life as a gender-nonconforming person has earned appearances in the HBO Women in Comedy Festival and the finals of the Boston Comedy Festival. A former member of the Puerto Rico Women’s National Soccer Team, Sisk is also the previous co-host of the podcast We’re Having Gay Sex.

Derby, a Penn State student group, features Alexis Altimont, Krista Hauseman, Lauren Langen, Olivia Long, Kylie Putt, and Kate Vera. A variety comedy troupe for women and non-binary people, Derby was created as a collaborative creative space for people not traditionally represented in comedy to write, perform, and make people laugh.

Campus Comedy Night was created with the help of the Center for the Performing Arts Student Advisory Council and arts engagement assistants. In its second year, the council features Penn State students from organizations and colleges throughout University Park that represent various topic areas, including the performing arts, minority identities, STEM and student government.
