In the fifth episode of the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State’s “Meeting the Moment with Michael Mwenso” livestream, the performance artist-historian will talk with clarinetist Anthony McGill, the New York Philharmonic’s first African-American principal player.

In fall 2019, the creative team for “A Marvelous Order” brought their modern opera to Eisenhower Auditorium for a weeklong developmental residency.

The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State invites faculty members to submit proposals for ways to increase curricular engagement with the arts.

“There are charismatic people, and then there’s Michael Mwenso,” NPR said of the multi-genre artist and cultural historian. “The leader of Mwenso and The Shakes is full of energy, charm and most importantly, joy.”

While the search for a new director continues, Penn State College of Arts and Architecture Dean B. Stephen Carpenter II has appointed Center for the Performing Arts Assistant Director Lea Asbell-Swanger as interim director.
