Time for Three
Bonded by an uncommon blend of instruments and vocals, Charles Yang (violin), Nick Kendall (violin), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass) have found a unique voice of expression. To experience Grammy Award-winning ensemble Time for Three live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew.
“We feel like we reflect a lot of this generation’s new artists who are coming from classical music, who all went to public school,” Kendall says in an interview with Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We have the internet and are listening to all sorts of music. We’re making this new music utilizing every bit of technique, knowledge, and practice that comes from playing the violin.”
Time for Three has collaborated with artists as diverse as Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, and Joshua Bell. The trio has premiered original works by composers Chris Brubeck and Pulitzer Prize winners Jennifer Higdon and William Bolcom.
The trio’s most recent commission by Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts, Contact, is featured on the Time for Three release Letters for the Future. The album was recorded with The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Xian Zhang, and won a 2023 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo.
Students from Bellefonte Area School District will perform with Time for Three at the end of the program.
