Terri Lyne Carrington
We Insist! 2025
Featuring Christie Dashiell

7:30 pm Thursday, February 5, 2026

Four-time Grammy Award-winning drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and a live band will perform songs from the “post-bop” jazz era in a bold reimagining of the seminal album We Insist! Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite. The concert also will feature singer Christie Dashiell, reprising Oscar Brown’s powerful lyrics and vocals by Abbey Lincoln from the pioneering 1961 release.

We Insist! 2025, an album of songs co-composed by Carrington and Dashiell and released in June, means to recapture the sonic and sometimes physical urgency of the turbulent 1960s with an expressive, athletic, and assertive vibe. Their tribute calls on Roach’s legacy while expanding its sonic palette with hints of gospel, neo-soul, funk, Afro-Latin, West African traditions, and blues.

In 2022, the Library of Congress added Roach’s album to the National Registry for preservation as a culturally significant work. Today, its message remains as vital and urgent today as it was in the 1960s.
