Delfeayo Marsalis and Uptown Jazz Orchestra to stream live Oct. 30

Musical-family-dynasty trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and Uptown Jazz Orchestra will treat jazz enthusiasts to a free Halloween eve performance. The concert will be livestreamed from Esplanade Studios in New Orleans starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

Visit Uptown Jazz for more information about the artists and how to watch the streamed concert.

The musicians will perform selections from their recent CD “Jazz Party,” as well as a variety of street-brass compositions.

The program is part of the Center for the Performing Arts “Up Close and Virtual” fall season. Contributions from the members of the center and a grant from the University Park Student Fee Board help make the program free of charge. The Glenn and Nancy Gamble Endowment provides additional support.

“We can look forward to an engaging, exciting and uplifting performance,” said center Director George Trudeau.

Marsalis is one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz. Known for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor” (Los Angeles Times), he is “one of the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation” (San Francisco Examiner).

In 2011, Delfeayo and the Marsalis family (father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton and Jason) earned the country’s highest jazz honor—a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.

Geisinger and Northwest provide support for virtual presentations by the Center for the Performing Arts.
