Event Description
Leonkoro Quartet, inspired by the Astrid Lindgren novel The Brothers Lionheart, is a rapidly rising, award-winning ensemble known for “bright, thoughtful accounts” and “blazing explorations” of the classical canon.
The Berlin-based virtuoso ensemble features siblings Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz (violin and cello), Emiri Kakiuchi (violin), and Mayu Konoe (viola). The musicians’ record-breaking success to win First Prize and nine special prizes at the 2022 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition catapulted them to global prominence.
“We try to achieve a warmth in our sound that some people might call old fashioned,” Lukas Schwarz says in an interview with LudwigVanToronto.com. “We are aiming for clearness and youthfulness but also for earthiness and a hugging sound that is intimate.”
