Event Description
Celebrate the power of poetry to build connection, understanding, and belonging. The What is Justice: Community Poetry Performance and Celebration highlights the work of activist-writers in State College and the Centre Region. Poets and speakers will share original work and engage in collective storytelling and reflection.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Attendees can watch in person or via a livestream.
The event is a culmination of workshops led by award-winning author Terry Watson and State College’s inaugural Poet Laureate Carmin Wong that explored how poetry can be a tool for healing, resistance, community building, and social change.
The series is part of the Performing Arts & Disability Collaborative, a colloquium of the Humanities Institute at Penn State, of which the Center is a collaborative partner. Throughout the 2026–27 season, disability advocates and scholars will host events centered on the topic of the intersection of the performing arts and disability.
The workshop series is part of a Penn State Performing Arts and Disability Collaborative between the Center for the Performing Arts and the Humanities Institute.
The poetry events are presented in partnership with venue partners Schlow Centre Region Library and 3 Dots Downtown.
