Move Mix Festival
Featuring Mohamed Abozekry Sextet
on tour as part of Center Stage

5:30 pm Thursday, September 25, 2025

Rain or shine, join us for the Center for the Performing Arts third annual Move Mix Festival! The community block party-styled event is a free event with an open invite for everyone to experience international jazz music and local dance performance.

Limited seating will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own folding or camp chair. In the event of rain, there will be tents and covered seating on the patio, and events may be moved indoors.

Egypt-born oud prodigy and world-versed musician Mohamed Abozekry is parked at the intersection of Arabic modality, Middle Eastern classical music, and international jazz fusion. He leads his sextet in a performance of a boundary-pushing, contemporary compositions atop his lilting and swirling vocal melodies. Aborzekry’s 2024 album, Roh El Fouad (The Heart’s Soul), fuses oud, bass, drums, keyboard, percussion, saxophone, and vocals to form the next chapter in his improvisational exploration of international sounds. His playful “bass slap” performance style blends hints of blues with his take on jazz for a unique experiment at contemporary folk music.

Kikora Franklin, director of the School of Theatre and professor of dance, will join Mojah Dance Theatre of Atlanta for their performance of Move Mix: Join the Mojah Movement. Mojah is a celebratory, stylish fusion of modern, jazz, and West African dance techniques.

American Sign Language interpretation

American Sign Language interpretation will be offered for the dance performance.
