Lea Asbell-Swanger receives prestigious award from national theatre technology organization

Lea Asbell-Swanger, assistant director of the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State, has received the Joel E. Rubin Founders Award from the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. The award recognizes outstanding and continued service to the institute.

Asbell-Swanger, who joined the institute in 1992, is the immediate past president of the group. She was named an institute fellow in 2012. In addition serving as president, her leadership positions have included being vice commissioner for Human Issues and for Programming, member of the Board of Directors and chair of the 21st Century Task Force and Transition Advisory Team. She also co-chaired the institute’s Living History Project and was an inaugural member of the institute’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

She received the honor at the institute’s recent national conference in Salt Lake City.
