Dorrance Dance, founded by MacArthur “genius” Fellow Michelle Dorrance, honors tap dance’s history while pushing its rhythmic, technical, and conceptual boundaries. ETM: Double Down is an evening-length work that uses electronic tap boards. The stage, in effect, becomes a musical instrument. The score is not just danced to but danced by the company. ETM features eight dancers and six musicians furiously exploring acoustic and digitally produced sounds.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba will perform a Latin-flavored and dance-inspired program featuring Maurice Ravel’s Bolero. Yekwon Sunwoo, winner of the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, is the featured soloist for Sergei Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. “What is special,” writes a Tampa Bay Times reviewer, “is when the musicians make like a big dance band from the Tropicana, the legendary nightclub in Havana, and play classical music with an Afro-Cuban beat.”
