Mavis Staples
and Joan Osborne
Solid Soul

7:30 pm Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Grammy Award-winning legend Mavis Staples teams up with multi-platinum recording artist Joan Osborne on the highly anticipated national tour Solid Soul. From her early days with the iconic Staple Singers, when she was on top of the charts with songs such as the 1972 number-one hit “I’ll Take You There,” to her recent albums with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Staples has been a leader in American music for six decades. “Mavis Staples will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest gospel singers of all time,” insists a writer Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current. “… From traditional gospel music, to protest songs that underscored some of the decade’s most dramatic social changes, to the self-empowerment anthems and soulful love tunes of more recent years, she proves to be a gospel legend.” The Solid Soul tour marks Staples’ first tour collaboration with Osborne, the widely celebrated singer-songwriter who dominated top-forty radio with her hit song “One of Us” and whose albums have garnered seven Grammy nominations. “[Osborne’s] sweet yet husky voice is a wonderfully expressive instrument, bringing emotional honesty, a.k.a. soul, to every performance,” writes a critic for American Songwriter. “… Osborne’s compositional, arranging, and vocal talents take the listener on a classy, beautifully realized music journey.” Staples and Osborne are scheduled to perform separate sets, followed by a finale together.
