Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins, and Anaïs Mitchell
Use Your Voice 2016 Tour

7:30 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins, and Anaïs (A-nay-us) Mitchell come together in a celebration of American songwriting and performance. More than a three-act show, the concert features the artists sharing songs and accompanying each other for the entire evening. Recipient of a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album, Griffin is recognized as an astonishing vocalist. But the American Music Association’s 2007 Artist of the Year is also a gifted songwriter. She’s created songs for artists as diverse as the Dixie Chicks and Bette Midler and written most of the material on her own impressive catalog of recordings. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Watkins, who first garnered praise for her work as a founding member of the Grammy-winning contemporary folk band Nickel Creek, has established an extraordinary solo career with acclaimed studio albums plus collaborations with John Mayer, The Decemberists, and others. She’s also a frequent guest on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion. Mitchell’s musical style and sound have earned comparison to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Gillian Welch. Winner of the Kerrville Festival’s New Folk Award and nominee for the Folk Alliance’s Best Contemporary Artist Award, Mitchell is known as a distinctive young voice in the resurging American folk movement. Critics laud her most recent album as “genre-defining” and her “second consecutive masterpiece.”

Free and open to the public

The community is invited to a 90-minute event about the barriers that keep people from civic engagement. Centre County Use Your Voice will tackle the problem of being underrepresented and unheard through social networking, a panel discussion, testimonials on the everyday issues single women face, and a roundtable exercise to identify how each person can engage locally in community decision-making. The conversation outcomes will be announced from the stage at the March 16 Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins, and Anaïs Mitchell concert in Eisenhower Auditorium.

For information about childcare during the event, contact Medora Ebersole at 814-863-6752 or mde13@psu.edu.
